Movement in Turkish Marble

Year after year, we have clients and friends ask us about Movement in Turkish Marble and in natural stone in general. When we say movement, the intention is to understand the visual movements observable not the potential for physical movement. Let’s get started.

The first characteristics of marble that inspire visual movement are the veins in the stone. To quote one of our sister companies: “marble is a metamorphic rock formed when limestone is exposed to extraordinarily high heat. The veins that you observe running through marble are, from a geological stand point, sheets or plates of crystallized minerals. These veins are absolutely essential in creating the organic, natural appearance the marble should project.”

Another indicator of movement in marble is shade. Shading is generated as marble is formed in the Earth by pressure, mineral deposits, shifts, temperature, etc. The combination of shading and veining create the movement that is the subject of this post and a desired characteristic of all natural stone. Please note that the three images we suggest here are indicative of the wonderful movement in our Avenza Marble. Thanks for reading!
